Property Transfer Taxes in Pakistan: The Basics

Hamza Qureshi · Commercial Property Broker · 8 min read · 20 November 2025

A plain-language overview of stamp duty, capital value tax, and society transfer fees buyers and sellers should budget for in Punjab, Sindh, and ICT.

Transaction costs in Pakistan go beyond the agreed price. Stamp duty, capital value tax (where applicable), withholding, and society transfer fees can add a meaningful percentage to your all-in cost — varying by province and property type.

Always ask your agent or lawyer for a written fee schedule before token. In DHA and Bahria, society transfer and membership dues are separate from government levies. Overseas buyers should also clarify who pays what in the agreement to avoid last-minute disputes.

Laws and rates change; treat this as orientation, not legal advice. Engage a property lawyer for high-value transfers, especially where power of attorney or overseas attestation is involved.
